After posting this video to our facebook page, it went viral and has received hundreds of thousands of views. National newspapers including The Mail, The Mirror, The Star and The Express were quick to cover the story, closely followed by local radio stations.
Three investigators (Selena Wright of Paranormal Wiltshire, Karin Beasant of South Bristol Paranormal & Colin Symonds of Truthseekers Paranormal Investigations) and the hotel engineer (Craig Kitchman) are sat drinking tea in The Antrobus Hotel bar at lunchtime. We all heard a loud click (the CCTV footage has no audio, although there is a version of the tape where the newspapers have added a ridiculous sound effect!) We turn towards the noise to see the lantern door swing open. Intrigued, we check to see if the candle inside showed signs of heat, it hadn't been lit that day. We check the latch on the lantern door which is quite stiff and closes firmly - the opening and closing of which produced the loud click that we had heard. We check the level of the bar with a spirit level. It was straight and level. We have all sworn there was no one behind the bar, you may expect to see some kind of reflection in the glass if there had been? There is further CCTV footage to confirm there was no one else there. The windows are to the left of the room, you can see that the light coming in from behind the bar on the floor is unchanged. There is nothing attached to the lantern door (wire etc). Although the hotel is on a road, it's not a main road and the bar is at the rear and looks onto the garden, road vibration would be limited and I believe not of a force strong enough to open the door. The lantern which is one of a pair at each end of the bar, has stood there for at least 6 months and this has never happened before. The candles are lit in the evenings when the chandeliers are turned off for ambience, also to stop drinkers standing at the end of the bar restricting the free movement of the bar staff. The hotel has checked 2 weeks worth of CCTV footage before this incident which shows that the lantern hasn't been tampered with in any way. We don't claim that this incident is paranormal - only that we are unable to find a satisfactory explanation at this time. Your thoughts are welcome!
